Cause of Angus Cloud’s death revealed 2 months after ‘Euphoria’ star’s passing at 25

The actor’s family confirmed his death in a statement to PEOPLE on Monday, July 31st, following Cloud’s passing at their Oakland, California residence.

The cause of Angus Cloud’s death has come to light nearly two months after the passing of the 25-year-old Euphoria star.

According to the Alameda County Coroner, Cloud, renowned for his role as Fezco on the popular HBO series, passed away due to acute intoxication resulting from an accidental overdose.

At the time of his demise, the actor had traces of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines (sedative medications frequently prescribed for conditions like anxiety disorders, insomnia, and seizures) in his system.

The news of Cloud’s passing initially emerged on Monday, July 31. In a statement provided to PEOPLE at that time, the actor’s family confirmed that he had passed away at their residence in Oakland, California.

“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today,” their statement read. “As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.”

They expressed, “The only solace we find is in knowing that Angus has now been reunited with his father, who was his closest confidant.”

Furthermore, the family revealed that Angus had been open about his mental health struggles and expressed their desire for his passing to serve as a reminder to others that they do not have to face similar challenges alone and in silence. They hoped that Angus would be remembered by the world for his humor, infectious laughter, and his deep love for everyone.

Four days following the tragic event, Angus Cloud’s mother, Lisa Cloud, took to Facebook to provide her perspective on her son’s passing, emphasizing that it was not a deliberate act.

In a Facebook post, she expressed, “Although my son was in deep grief about his father’s untimely death from mesothelioma, his last day was a joyful one. He was reorganizing his room and placing items around the house with intent to stay a while in the home he loved.” She further clarified, “He spoke of his intent to help provide for his sisters at college, and also help his mom emotionally and financially. He did not intend to end his life.”

Lisa continued her account, saying, “When we hugged goodnight we said how much we loved each other and he said he would see me in the morning.” She added, “I don’t know if or what he may have put in his body after that. I only know that he put his head on the desk where he was working on art project’s, fell asleep and didn’t wake up.”

Lisa stressed that, although her son may have experienced an accidental and tragic overdose, there is indisputable evidence that he did not have any deliberate intention to depart from this world.

She has continued to honor his memory by sharing recollections of him on social media.

In early August, Lisa uploaded a throwback video of her son from a time before he gained recognition on the streets of New York City and rose to fame. She described the video as a reflection of her son’s exceptional spirit, a spirit that eventually paved the way for his breakthrough role on Euphoria.

Angus Cloud portrayed Fezco, a drug dealer, in HBO’s Euphoria for two seasons. In addition to his role in Euphoria, Cloud appeared in films such as The Line and North Hollywood, and he also featured in music videos alongside artists like Becky G, Karol G, and Juice WRLD.
