Kevin Bacon and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, have shared a beautiful marriage lasting three decades. Their love story began while filming the 1988 PBS movie “Lemon Sky,” and they tied the knot in September of the same year.
Now, almost 35 years later, Kyra Sedgwick reveals the secrets that have kept their marriage going strong all these years.
During a recent interview, the Golden Globe Award-winning actress shared that the secret to their enduring union has a lot to do with food. Sedgwick went on to explain:
“Sometimes there’s sparks. Sometimes there’s just chicken. Sometimes it’s romantic and it’s like, ‘Oh my god.’ And sometimes it’s chicken.”
The “Loverboy” star specifically referred to “roast chicken,” emphasizing that it’s a dish that has remained consistently good and reliable in their relationship. Humorously, Sedgwick also stated that taking advice from celebrities about the secret to a happy marriage might not be the best idea.
Recalling how she fell in love with Bacon, “The Closer” star shared that she was fiercely independent at the time. However, when she met Kevin Bacon, a Pennsylvania native, she felt an undeniable urge to marry him, knowing deep down that he was the right man for her.
Sedgwick couldn’t quite describe the feeling, but it scared her as she wasn’t used to depending on others. Yet, something about Bacon made her let her guard down, and she gushed about it.
“He was the one, you know? He was just the soul mate. He was just the one.”
Recently, Sedgwick joined in the celebration of her spouse’s 65th birthday. Bacon took to Instagram to commemorate the special occasion, sharing a picture of himself and the thoughtful birthday preparation by his beloved wife. In the caption, he wrote:
“[…] My wife has made this a beautiful day. She has said recently our marriage is like roast chicken, so she made a perfect chicken for dinner followed by my favorite— buckwheat banana bread with chocolate icing. Perfect day.”
Bacon Lost ‘Millions’ but Not Love for His Wife – The Couple Enjoy Singing on Their Farm
Bacon and Sedgwick have not only achieved success in their marriage but also in their careers. Sedgwick attributes their accomplishments to being each other’s unwavering support system. The New York native also revealed that the key ingredient in their union is:
“A sense of humor is crucial. He is very freaking funny.”
Sedgwick and Bacon’s relationship has endured significant challenges over the years. In 2009, they faced a major financial setback when they discovered they had been scammed by the infamous New York financier Bernie Madoff in his $50 billion Ponzi scheme.
Although Bacon chose not to disclose the exact amount of money they lost in a May 2017 interview, various media reports suggested it was in the millions. However, he openly discussed the difficult experience and emphasized that he and his spouse were able to overcome the ordeal together, emerging stronger from the adversity they faced.
“It was a bad day. But pretty quickly we were able to see all the things we had as opposed to whatever we lost,” said the Golden Globe Award winner.
Despite their problems, the Hollywood couple enjoys spending time together on their farm in Connecticut. Bacon recently posted a video of them singing together, with him playing the guitar and Sedgwick adding a playful touch with a kazoo in the background.
“Happy 4th! Beware of goat poop,” he wrote in his post. The happily married pair kissed at the end of the video and said, “Happy Fourth of July.”
In March 2021, Bacon gave a tour of the couple’s farm on “Good Morning America” and revealed that they own goats and alpacas. The property features several barns where they lovingly care for their animals.
Bacon & Sedgwick Share Two Adult Children
Sedgwick and Bacon are proud parents to a son named Travis and a daughter named Sosie. Travis was born in June 1989, and Sosie followed in March 1992.
Both of their children have taken after their parents by venturing into the entertainment industry. Travis pursued a career as a musician, while Sosie followed her passion for acting.
In a May 2017 interview, Bacon, a Screen Actors Guild Award winner, expressed pride in fatherhood. He and his Emmy Award-winning wife emphasized their parenting style, allowing their children to make their own choices, fostering independence, and strengthening their bond as a family. Their approach has resulted in self-reliant and responsible individuals.
As a doting and proud father of two, Bacon revealed that being a parent holds immense meaning to him. He considers it the most significant achievement in his life.
“The proudest accomplishment of my life is my children. Being a parent [means] bringing them up and trying to teach them and have them learn by example to be good, decent, compassionate, hardworking people,” said the family patriarch.
