Woman found a stray dog on her patio furniture that refused to leave

Amy Haden resides in a house with a delightful yard alongside her daughter, where they peacefully coexist with two beloved pets.

One morning, as she prepared for work, her daughter called out, alerting her to a dog on their porch. Initially dismissing it, she mentioned that she had already let their dogs out that morning. However, Amy was taken aback when her daughter insisted, “No, this dog isn’t ours.”

Upon inspecting their back porch, she confirmed with her own eyes that the dog outside was indeed not their own.

“Whose dog is that?” Amy asked her daughter.

“I don’t know… it’s not the neighbor’s dog. I know they don’t have a dog that looks like that,” her daughter replied.

“Just chillin’ on the porch,” Amy said with a laugh.

The unexpected visitor seemed quite comfortable, lounging on one of the porch chairs as he stared back at them. It almost appeared as though he was patiently waiting for them to join him, inviting them to spend some time together.

Initially, they assumed he was merely a wandering neighborhood dog owned by someone nearby. However, when they returned home at the end of the day to find him in the exact spot and discovered him there the following morning, it became evident that he had already made himself feel at home.

So what would any responsible neighbor do?

Despite her best efforts, Amy couldn’t locate the dog’s owner through texts, Facebook posts, or even a vet check for a microchip. Undeterred, she and her daughter decided to temporarily welcome him into their home, naming him Walker. While they continued their search for his original owners, they engaged the TikTok community, allowing them to name their newfound furry friend.

“She told us she was praying for a dog like him and that we were the answer to her prayers,” Amy recalled.

Regrettably, despite Walker’s gentle nature, he couldn’t find common ground with Amy’s other dogs. Ultimately, Amy had to make the difficult decision to rehome him.

After exhausting all efforts in the search for Walker’s previous owner, Amy and her daughter made the heart-wrenching choice to find him a new home. As much as they adored Walker, the responsibilities of caring for three dogs had become overwhelming in terms of both time and finances.

Luckily, they managed to secure a new, loving home for the sweet dog with a kind elderly woman.

Amy’s actions led to the heartwarming union between Walker and his new owner.

Although Amy’s tale concluded on a positive note, the fate of every lost or stray dog we encounter may not be as fortunate. To aid these animals found on the streets or within our homes, the RSPCA has offered valuable guidelines.

In case the dog is injured or unwell, it is crucial to promptly contact your nearby animal shelter or animal welfare organization. By doing so, they can ensure the dog receives the necessary medical attention and care.

If the dog appears healthy, it’s essential to approach them cautiously. Avoid leaning over or towering above the dog. Instead, sit down and patiently wait for the dog to approach you, speaking to them in a gentle and soothing tone. Once they come to you and allow you to care for them, check if they have a tag with their owner’s information.

If there’s no tag and time permits, take them to a vet for a thorough checkup and to scan for a microchip. Reach out to your neighbors to help locate the owners, and utilize social media platforms to spread the word. Additionally, create and distribute posters in the area.

In the event that you can’t locate the owner, carefully consider whether you want to adopt the dog or find a suitable new home for them.
